The City at Night

Saturday 06 June
Halifax - 8pm - 2 Hours
Jonathon Monaghan
Many people don't think about nighttime being a good time to do photography since there's a lack of light. However, armed with knowledge about your camera's settings and the properties of light, nighttime photography can be a lot of fun.

In this meetup, you'll learn about the best camera settings for nighttime photography. We'll also explore the kinds of light available to us and how to use that light to make some awesome photos. As always, there are exercises that will help you put your new knowledge to work.

Art is meant to provoke creativity, not forged through rigid rules, but to be creative we need to be in a state of play and to be in a state of play means you need to feel safe. This workshop will be held outdoors in a local public garden, where we will wander the park to get inspired by the structure, texture, and colors of spring flowers before settling down for nature-inspired art therapy.

We will be using gouache on watercolor paper, reviewing brush stroke techniques and how to approach drawing what inspires you.

All art supplies will be provided. Participants should bring a blanket or camping chair to sit on.

Jon, did a top notch studio photography session! I appreciated his coaching us where he encouraged us to jump right in with our new found knowledge. He even took the class to a higher level by arranging for us to do a photo shoot with a real model. For me this was money well spent! I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in using a flash and interested in studio and Portrait photography to definitely take this class with Jon. It will be the smartest investment in obtaining valuable hands on photography experience! Thanks Jon!
